The Tower (XVI) is the sixteenth trump. A tower in the card has just been hit by lightning and is aflame. It is a symbol of sudden and unexpected shock - an event that is disruptive to one's life such as a bankruptcy, divorce or terrible calamity. The top of the tower is crumbling and falling to the ground beneath - symbolising a fall of some kind. In some decks, two figures fall from the top of the tower whereas in others in others, the people themselves are on the ground in flames looking up. The card can symbolise troubled times or indeed a troubled individual with psychological problems - a nervous breakdown perhaps?
