What happens after death?
At brain death we shed the physical body as we would a suit of clothes and progress to the spirit world in our astral body. This is a temporary form and is made of a material that is on a higher vibration to gross matter. As we progress we shed this etheric sheath and enter into the realms of pure spirit which is indescribable in earthly terms, the closest metaphor for this state is that it is a 'world of light'.
At the point of death some people are aware of the material world but most fall into the 'tunnel of light' that is often described by people who have come back from the brink of death. NDE cases usually describe reaching a demarcation point, (sometimes symbolised by a fence, pearly gates or a stairway) -cross this threshold and there's no returning to the physical body. We are then greeted by those we love who have gone before us and we become aware of God who appears to us in the form we are most familiar with. An atheist or Buddhist may experience God as a light, a Hindu may see Krishna, a Moslem may see Mohammed or the light of Allah and a Christian may see the form of Jesus.

WE SWITCHED THE LIFE SUPPORT MACHINE OFF
My son at the age of 28 was involved in an accident and as a result was put on to a life support machine. The doctors said that his brain had swollen so much that he would never recover. He was brain dead.
For five dreadful days I agonised whether to give them permission to turn the machine off. Finally I relented and all his organs were donated for transplantation. Since that day I've been tormented with self doubt. What if he could have recovered? Where there's life there's always hope.
I saw a number of clairvoyants to see if they could contact my son but received no comfort. I even wrote to Michael Bentine after reading his book and he wrote me a very sympathetic and kind letter. But this terrible self doubt remains. Can you help?

I'm sure that every reader sheds a tear with you. You were tremendously brave to do what you had to do and maybe saved many other lives by doing so. On a number of occasions spirit people have communicated through me who were on a life support machine prior to death. They have said that the spirit leaves the body at brain death even though the body still functions.
One communicator, for an American sitter, explained that his body had been cryogenically frozen after death and asked me to say that it was a complete waste of money. In short, your son was already in the afterlife before you gave permission to switch off the machine.
