How
did you discover your abilities?
It's
been with me since a child. I used to see my deceased granddad
and the light around people that we call the aura.
I was always interested in psychic-type
subjects but the life-changing time was when I met Doris
Stokes. The things she told me blew me away. I was the managing
director of an advertising agency and she told me I'd turn
my back on it. I did- to become a psychic-medium
Were you ever a tad sceptical?
Yes and still can be. Some people get carried away with
the fairies: 'The angel Michael is at this moment making
transformatory changes to our planet.' :o) You have to be
sensible and down to earth. A good medium has to present
things in a way in order to appeal to people's common sense.
What about people who think it's all nuts?
Sometimes it is a bit nutty- I've met people who are bonkers.
But very occasionally you get real phenomena which can give
us wonderful proof that these things are real.
How come there's no scientific proof?
The proof for telepathy is enormously strong- and what
I do is telepathy with the dead. But don;'t forget we are
dealing with a field of investigation that is phenomenally
difficult to prove in a lab - the proof one does get is
usually subjective. It might be provable one day- quantum
physics could help explain things. Some scientists believe
ESP is possible. People such as Joseph Banks Rhine did a
lot of investigation into telepathy. Then there's the Edinburgh
Chair of Parapsychology set up by Alfred Koestler which
is doing serious investigations.
Is everyone Psychic?
Up to a point. You get a certain feeling about them. It's
difficult to explain how you know this, but certain people
you feel are open. You certainly meet people whom you know
are never going to be psychic
in a million years because they're completely closed to
it, but I think everybody has the potential. It's a natural
gift and would be useful. Knowing who's good and who's bad
would be very good when it comes to bonding and sex, wouldn't
it?

With Jane, was it a telepathic thing or did you just
fancy her?
I didn't see her. I was giving a demonstration at Spiritualist
church and she was at the back. I was describing her grandmother
who was dead and I blurted out: "I'm being told by
your grandmother Ethel that you're a really good medium
as well. Perhaps you could give me a sitting sometime."
I wasn't chatting her up. I just spouted it out. I was wondering
what made me say it in front of an audience. I expected
them all to go (teasingly): 'Ooh.' I went for the sitting
and it was love at first sight. I'd been through quite a
hard time before in a previous marriage, and so had Jane.
I'd brought a child up for nine years on my own from a baby
and she'd had a similar difficult time. So there were lots
of things, as well as the psychic connection, that created
empathy.
I'm petrified of dying. What's going to happen?
Well I'm petrified of dying- everyone is. I saw my dad
die- it was awful. I believe the pain of death is not as
bad as we think because the spirit separates from the body
at an early stage. We have a psychic
body that is separate from the physical body and some 60
percent of us think we've had an out-of-body experience-
I certainly have. If that can happen in life, why not in
death? The main pain is separation from our loved ones-
but that's only for those of us who live on.
So Life's good on the other side?
There's good and bad- you create a world according to what
you're like. If you're a pig in this world, you'll be a
pig in the next one (not literally of course) Like attracts
like, so you'll be attracted to people of a similar mind.
Those with spiritual feelings will be drawn together. If
you look at most people, they're fundamentally good, though
they can be a bit mixed up at times. People have a conscience
of some sort. And that's the essence of ourselves that goes
on and on.
