Do Police use Psychics?

It is interesting to note the statistics about police using psychics. Some psychics claim that they are regularly consulted by the police but clearly these claims are false. (Jane and I have been involved in a number of investigations but these have been either through private investigators or because members of the investigation have requested that we be involved. The Skeptic Express requested information from the 52 local police forces in the UK. Detailed results can be found on this page. But here's the conclusion to their inquiry:

Do the British police use psychics to investigate major crimes?

• The results revealed that of the 46 UK Police Forces actively participating; none have used psychics within their jurisdiction during the course of an investigation. This is a significant indicator that psychics are not used routinely or otherwise by UK police forces.
• In addition, it could be argued from accompanying comments that psychics may actually hinder effective investigations by the provision of useless information that must be taken into account in investigations thus wasting valuable police resources.
• It would seem then despite the operational freedom that each Chief Officer has to call a psychic into a serious crime investigation it has yet to be exercised by the vast majority of Forces. Indeed many take a dim view of those might wish to claim the credit for the diligence and persistence of police officers who have worked tirelessly to secure a result. 
• It is the psychic who always initiates contact with the police. The police never solicit psychic assistance.
• In Studies ‘Psychic ability’ has proven no better than chance in providing information.
• The quality of information provided by psychics is frequently worthless and inaccurate.
• Psychics often approach the police for self promotional reasons and relish the association with such a credible higher authority as the police
• There is no police policy of using psychics in the UK
