Q.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HYPNOSIS AND MEDITATION?
There are a lot
of questions about whether hypnosis and meditation are one
and the same or have the same benefits etc.
I have tried
to put down some thoughts and information I have gathered
regarding the similarities and differences.
The similarities
between hypnosis and meditation are that they both take
us to a mental state that is very different to our everyday
waking state. Hypnosis, whether it be self hypnosis or induced
by another person, takes us to a place that is in our memory;
a place and/or time we know, the remembrance of such may
have an effect on how we view things in the present day.
This, in turn, may supply us with some helpful answers about
specific problems or fears.
Meditation takes
us to an envisioned place where we can find serenity , calmness
and answers through visions and symbols.
One difference
being the two disciplines is that hypnosis is used to regress
us (focusing on our past and fears) whereas meditation is
used to progress us (focusing on relaxation and enlightenment).
Hypnosis can be used to dispel fears and any addictions
we may have, whereas meditation teaches us to use these
fears and addictions and find a strength in them - to learn
from them.
It must be pointed
out, however, that while both these practices can be beneficial
to mediums seeking to unfold their mediumistic potential,
they will not induce mediumship and should not be used for
the purpose of spirit contact. They might, however, along
with relaxation and visualisation, quicken the trainee medium's
ability to make those spirit links.
