About Medium Readings (AKA Spiritual Readings)
A medium is different to a psychic in that as well as picking up information about you and your situation they can also connect to the spirit world and give you information about people who have passed to the other side. A psychic cannot do this as their skill are better focused on life issues, romance, questions about job changes etc.
Spiritualist Medium Readings
Most mediums have developed their skill at giving readings and learn their skills though a Spiritualist Church. Usually they start off by sitting in a development circle and then either work in a private one to one capacity or become what we call a platform medium which is a medium that demonstrated on the Spiritualist Church rostrum.
Mediumistic development can take many years – on average I would estimate that it takes a medium up to 15 years to develop their gift even if they were naturally gifted from birth. Indeed there are many who claim that mediumship cannot be developed from nothing. You have to have the gift all of your life and the training you get from Spiritualism simply enhances and already latent gift. Within Spiritualism there’s a saying: “Mediums are born, not made.”
Medium Readings are a special spiritual gift
Today there are many who make a claim to be mediums. I find it somewhat surprising that in the past you could count the real mediums on your fingers and toes but that today there are thousands of mediums in the world. Many complete unknowns to Spiritualism have sprung from nowhere and now make all sorts of claims. Within spiritualism we also say: “One in a hundred is intuitive and one in a thousand is psychic but just one in a million is a medium.”
What happens during medium readings by telephone?
People today call it a ‘medium reading’ but within Spiritualism we would normally call this mediumship or in some instances clairvoyance. Seeing a medium used to have to happen in their home or at the Spiritualist Church but now many mediums are working by telephone and sometimes in chat rooms (Like ours in the free community area) This has been a boon for many mediums as it enables them to work professionally with less disruption to their home.
Medium readings give proof of life after death or as Spiritualists say: “give proof of the continuation of the personality after death.” Knowing that your loved one has survived death and getting some proof of this can be very comforting. Many of the mediums working on our telephone lines have been trained as I have described above and come from the Spiritualist tradition.
Medium readings by phone may not be for you?
For most people talking to a medium after a bereavement is a huge step and you may not initially feel comfortable about calling a medium to talk on the phone. If this is the case with you then you may want to visit your local Spiritualist Church where you can get a reading for free. Take your time seeing a medium
Have a reading when you feel ready. Whether you have the courage to call a medium by phone or first want to seek solace through Spiritualism there is no hurry. Do not expect the sort of readings you see on television because these sometimes are very heavily edited and make it look like mediums fire off information like a machine gun. In fact if you watch any mediums at work – including Jane and me – you’ll see that mediumship is much more gentle than what you’ll see at a public demonstration.
Final proof of life after death can take many years of seeking. Sometimes a medium will give you what you are looking for immediately and at other times it may take years before you get the absolute proof that you seek. Medium readings are just part of a great spiritual journey that will eventually give you comfort and, most importantly, the overwhelming and irrefutable proof that life indeed does continue after death.
