PELE'S HEALING GOALS

I have just returned from Rio. Whilst there I witnessed the most incredible thing that I have ever seen in my life: A psychic 'operation' was undertaken by an entranced healer. It wasn't the usual form of healing where the healer places their hands on a patient. This Indian actually used surgical instruments. It took place in a dirty room and without anaesthetic. He used a rusty penknife to remove a tumour in the patients chest. There was blood everywhere but afterwards the patient looked well and there were no scars left behind. Do you think this was real?

Scientists who have investigated these Brazillian healers have exposed a number of fakes. The blood in some cases was found to be from animals. Clearly this type of chicanery is not good for the genuine healers who work out of the limelight. The Brazillian football idol Pele now claims that he is a healer of sick children. "Those children are in wheelchairs. Miraculously, when I touch them they start walking again- my God! I visit them in hospital and the boys and girls are cured" Pele, 53 retired from football in 1974. Perhaps his real life's work has just begun

A PSYCHIC RIP OFF

I recently visited a psychic fayre where a clairvoyant told me she saw my husband and I parting. Also I would suffer a loss due to an accident but it would leave me a stronger person. I love my husband and family very much and am worried sick that something terrible is going to happen.

The psychic should be shot. A good psychic would not tell you such nonsense- they would be more responsible. Psychic fayres are usually money making organisations. We have visited many and have rarely met any truly gifted psychics at such events.

I DON'T BELIEVE IT

I somewhat reluctantly agreed to visit a Spiritualist Church with some members of our OAP club. I must confess, part way through a "George" came through to the medium with a message for his wife "Jean" and one of our group made herself known... and became very emotional. (Incidentally, three Jeans put their hands up as it's a common name among our age group, but the medium picked our Jean)

Here was a golden opportunity for a loving husband to put his worried wife's mind at rest by telling her where he was, what was on the 'other side' and what exactly we can all expect when we die. But all she got was a somewhat silly message saying that he hoped her legs would get better (she walked in with a stick) and her chest would be all right. (she was coughing as he spoke to her)

If mediums really can speak to the dead why are the messages they relay so trite?

Sadly, I have to agree with your criticism. The standards of many exponents today is so bad that it would fail to convince sceptical people like yourself. However, I suggest that you persevere. If you're lucky enough to watch a top notch medium in action I'm sure you'll change your mind and receive the answers to the many questions you have.

THE FICKLE FINGER OF FATE

I recently bought a book on palmistry and it has terrified me. I keep looking at peoples hands and to my great discomfort nobody else has the same distinctive lines as mine. I have a very steeply sloping head line. The book says that my lines are typical of someone who may commit suicide. I am 38 and have been through periods of great depression but I do not want to take my own life.

A little knowledge is a bad thing. Palmists stress that individual lines are not as important as the overall interpretation. This takes the mounts, lines, and fingers of the whole hand into account. The steeply sloping head line also has a positive aspect: If it touches the mount of Lunar, opposite the thumb and at the bottom of the palm, it indicates an imaginative and creative person.
