STRESS RELIEF TECHNIQUE
Try this simple exercise: Loosen tight clothing and sit somewhere quiet and comfortable.
Let your breathing gradually become slow and deep.
Next, when you inhale tell yourself 'I am' and when you exhale 'relaxed’.
Repeat this a few times.
When you say the word relaxed to yourself, let your body slowly sink deeper into the chair. Extend the words Relaaaaaaaaxxxx…..
This exercise, that takes only a few minutes, will slow the heart rate and raise body temperature- physiological changes that signify a relaxed state.

If you find the above method makes you less stressful then maybe you would like to consider sitting in meditation for a longer period. One of the best ways to let go of stress is to simply watch the breath. As you advance you will learn to introduce a silent mantra that you inwardly repeat as you watch the breath rise and fall.
The most commonly used mantra is So Hum. You inhale with Sooooo and exhale with Hummmmmm. You do not try to change the breath. You just watch it: AS IT IS. SoHum increases the effect of the relaxation and meditation by releasing the autonomic nervous system.
STRESS RELIEF IS EASY!
Okay so breathing to relieve stress sounds really lame and boring but in reality it is a very powerful techniques that brings a huge number of benefits such as inner peace, better concentration and memory as well as a greater sense of well being and purpose. Scientific studies have shown that the brain actually changes when a person becomes skilled at watching the breath and that stress levels drop markedly. Previously stressful, depressed people become happy and at ease with themselves.
If we feel stressful the breath becomes agitated and disturbed. When we are at peace it becomes smooth and slightly slower than when we are active. For detailed information about how to use the breath in meditation see our meditation techniques main index.
