Cleromancy
Cleromancy is divination by dice and to a lesser extent
by lots. Romany Gypsies are said to still practice this
ancient art ot throwing dice. The use of just two dice is called Astragalomancy
- a form of dice divination that evolved from a system that
used the anklebones of sheep.
The Tibetans practised it under the name Sho-Mo using using
three ordinary standard spotted dice. Hindu's use an ancient
divining science called Ramala and the dice used are very
similar to standard dice except they are spun on a rod.
Cleromancy techniques can also include throwing black
and white beans, small bones or stones. Cleromancy has been
practised since 2000 BC and used in Ancient Egypt and Rome.
The use of dice probably developed from sortilege.
Here's a simple experiment using two dice to divine the
future. Concentrate on your question and then use two ordinary
dice to get your answer:
ONE - Yes
TWO - No
THREE - Take care
FOUR - Be wise
FIVE - Good Luck
SIX - Of course
SEVEN - Have faith
EIGHT - Be patient
NINE - Certainly
TEN - Doubtful
ELEVEN - Nonsense
TWELVE - A chance
